Useful Tips!

You have to remember that not all people are made equal and this includes our skin. The things listed below may not affect your tan at all. However, if your tan does not last as long as you had hoped or is going patchy or fading, here is your first port of call.

The following products or actions may lighten or make a sunless tan blotchy:

Some users have found that certain soaps and shower gels will fade a tan faster.

Anti-aging products that "renew" "refresh" or otherwise exfoliate skin.

Retin-A type products.

Toners containing Alcohol.

Anti-acne products that exfoliate the skin.

Makeup remover, cleaning products or oils used to clean away eye makeup.

Bar soaps, especially deodorant varieties.

Using a loofa, scrub mitt etc. for daily washing will also fade your tan (use a soft wash cloth or "soft poof").

Facial masks and exfoliating scrubs.

Wax hair removal.

Depilatory hair removal products.

Shaving also exfoliates the skin. Always use a sharp clean razor with a lubricating product - hair conditioner works well.

Pat dry, don't rub after a bath or shower.

Body hair bleach products.

Submersion in hot tub, swimming pool with chlorine or salt water (apply a thick waterproof sun block - this will help protect your tan).

Even a long hot bath can affect the tan on some people.

A woman's tan may also develop differently during various hormonal changes (ovulation, menstruation, pregnancy).

People with oily skin tend to develop a lighter tan than people with dry skin. Bug spray when sprayed directly onto skin, can remove or fade the tan, spray a "cloud" and then walk through it.

You should have clean dry exfoliated skin before being sprayed. This means no makeup, deodorants, moisturisers, moisturising body washes etc. Ensure that you have a final rinse in clean running water to remove every trace of soap.
