Frequently Asked Questions

Sun Spritz™ Tanning Booth

What is Airbrush Tanning?

True Exposure Airbrush Tanning uses an air compressor and Airbrush to apply a tanning solutions known as DHA to the body to give a tan that lasts up to one week. Tropical Sun Airbrush Tanning uses a DHA (Dihydroxyacetone) solution formulated with the highest quality of ingredients to get the best golden airbrush tan without the orange look.

How does True Exposure Airbrush Tanning work?

Pro Airbrush Tanning works by using our True Expsoure Airbrush Tanning system. It is applied by spraying the body with a UV free solution. The active ingredient in Tropical Sun Airbrush Tanning is Dihydroxyacetone DHA. DHA is a colorless sugar that has been FDA approved for more than 30 years, which darkens the skin. DHA works by interacting with the amino acids in the dead surface cells found in the outermost layer of the skin, producing color changes. As the dead skin cells are naturally wearing off, the color gradually fades, just like a genuine suntan. This does not cause damage to the underlying living layers of skin. We add a color guild to the solution that gives that “Instant Tan Look” and makes application much easier. This color guild will wash off after the first shower. Tropical Sun Airbrush Tanning DOES NOT CONTAIN SUNSCREEN!!!

Is True Expsoure Airbrush Tanning safe?

Yes, the active ingredient DHA has been approved for cosmetic applications for 30 years. Most Sunless and bronzing tanning lotions use DHA. People who have allergies should test their skin first before using. Or check the ingredients list to make sure there is no concern before getting sprayed with Tropical Sun Airbrush Tanning Solution. People that are prone to allergies may want to test a small amount of solution on the back of leg.

How long does True Expsoure Airbrush Tanning take to apply?

It takes about 15 to 20 minutes for the whole process to be complete. The first part having the DHA solution applied to your body. Then it takes few minutes for your tan to dry. It is best to dry with a blow dryer on cool or with a fan or under a ceiling fan. To get a good initial base tan, we recommend two consecutive sessions, 24 hours apart.

How should I prepare for my True Expsoure Tanning session?

It is extremely important to Exfoliate with True Exosure Exfoliating Gel before your Airbrush Tanning session. Apply Exfoliating Gel and scrub with an exfoliating brush, glove or sponge. It is best to leave gel on your skin for one minute to allow the fruit enzymes to loosen up the old dead skin cells. Make sure that there are no oils, lotions, perfumes, or make up on the body. It’s best to wear loose-fitting clothing to your session. During your session you can wear an old bathing suit, old bra and panties or thong while getting sprayed. Our solution will wash out of most cotton cloths. The solution may stain some synthetics. It is a good Idea to bring a towel to your tanning session to put over your car seat for the ride home. You may want to protect your furniture before you shower.

What should I do after my True Exposure Airbrush Tanning session?

Wear loose-fitting clothing for at least six hours. And also do not shower, work out, or do any activity that you can cause you to sweat for the same period of time. This allows the DHA solution plenty of time to react with the amino acids in the skin. After 6-8 hours it is ok to shower. When showering you will notice the color guild washing off…this is NOT your tan washing off!!! Do not scrub your skin or use harsh or abrasive soaps. Moisturize, Moisturize, Moisturize… After bathing apply a generous amount of Tropical Sun Tan Extender. This product contains a small amount of DHA and will help to hold and maintain your tan. Moisturizing is the key to a long lasting beautiful tan! It is recommended that you moisturize at least 2 times a day.

How long will it last?

Our customers have reported that it lasts between 6-10 days. In some instances, even longer!

I have fair skin and have never been able to tan before without burning! Will the True Exposure Tanning solutions give me a tan?

Absolutely!

What is the difference in airbrush tanning vs. using cream or lotion tanners?

Imagine the difference between using your hands to smear paint over your car and using an airbrush to paint it. Even with the greatest of care, and help from a friend to get all the places you cannot reach, you cannot duplicate the evenness and natural look of an airbrushed tan!

If I use the True Exposure Sunless Tanning System, can I also tan in tanning beds and in the sun?

Yes. There is nothing in the True Exposure tanning solution that would prevent you from tanning in tanning beds or in the sun. In fact, some customers feel that tanning with UV rays and the True Expsoure tanning solution actually gives them a better overall tan. If you do plan to use a tanning bed and our tanning solutions in the same day we recommend that you tan in the tanning bed first. On that note, please remember that tanning solutions do not give you any protection from UV rays.

Is it safe to use? What about allergic reactions?

It is completely safe to use! Derived from sugar cane, the active tanning ingredient called DHA (dihydroxyacetone) has been tested and approved by the FDA for over 30 years! (Approved in 1973). However, if you have a hypersensitive skin condition, or are allergic to sunless-tanning products, please proceed with caution, and consult with your physician prior to using this or any other sunless tanning products. There have been very few reports of reactions of any kind (less than .5%). We wish everyone a fantastic experience with their new, beautiful looking skin...but let's be safe in doing so!

Does it have an odor?

We only carry the finest tanning products! Our sunless tanning solutions have virtually no odor. However, the odor you may smell is often associated with sunless tanning due to DHA reacting with your skin. Some people’s bodies seem to absorb a starchy odor initially (which does go away rather quickly), and other people seem to repel it. Unfortunately, a slight odor may exist since our tanning solutions, which contain DHA just like most other quality sunless tanning products. Please make no mistake, should you smell this odor, it is not that bad.

What if I inhale it, or it gets into my eyes?

Although there is nothing in the solution that has been known to cause problems, and is completely NON-TOXIC (absolutely NO harmful chemicals), we recommend holding your breath and closing your eyes when it is being applied near/on your face.

What about my hair?

Our tanning solutions will NOT damage or stain hair! Whereas it beads up when making contact with hair, and your hair will not absorb it, we recommend using a shower cap (bouffant cap) or hair net while applying solutions. For the simple reason that it takes most of us longer to get our hair looking good then it does to get a fantastic Sunless Tan!

Will it stain my cloths?

As with any other cosmetic products, it does have the potential to transfer to your clothing. And though it may occasionally be a nuisance, you will find that our recommend steps for application will reduce these occurrences significantly. Almost in every instance, the most likely time for transfer is immediately after the solution is applied. Therefore, we simply recommend wearing loose fitting, darker colored clothing after initial application. In practically every instance, solution that has transferred to you clothing will wash right out. More rare and stubborn cases may require dry cleaning.
